looking after, but everyone involved in the program.
THE TEAM. Your first and greatest responsibility is always to the team. It is unethical to coach without consideration of the needs of the team. What this means is, when a coach is only looking after his self interests, or puts the interests of any other person, persons, or agency above that of the team he will lose touch with what is most important and that is the well-being of the team and it's individual players. Some of these player/ team oriented issues are:
1. Training. Every player must be well trained in the fundamentals of the game, and his own positional requirements. 2. Teamwork. Stress unity of purpose. Make sure that all of your players on your team understand that through joint endeavor the team may find success. Without teamwork they will never really be playing football, failure will be their reward. 3. Player Moral. Make sure your players can keep a positive attitude even in adversity. As a coach you must never appear negative. If you do, the team will lose faith in you, and in themselves. Watch for signs of player negativity. If you see this in any of your players find out what the problem is, and try to help the player through it. Make group training challenging but enjoyable If the team is having fun in practice they will learn more, and develop more quickly as a unit. Good moral will unify your players, and sustain them through adversity, don't take it lightly. 4. Game Plan. Design your game plan around player strengths. Ensure the plays you decide to run can be understood, and executed by the team with confidence, and success. Use player input to help you in your choices, with the understanding of the team, that you have the final say in all matters. Make sure your game plan works for the team, not against them. 5. Player Conduct. Stress sportsmanship, fair play, discipline, and responsibility on the part of the players. Work to develop a team attitude, that will not tolerate poor player conduct. Make your players understand that bad conduct by one player will hurt the whole team. Ensure your players understand that they have responsibilities off the field as well as on it. School work , their families, and their health are more important than the game of football. COMMUNITY. Your Second Responsibility is to the community. I will keep this short and simple. If a coach fails his team he by default, fails the community. This is
