To Coach football you must have good knowledge of the game. Keep abreast of all rule changes, and never become stagnant.  Study the game, in relationship with how individual talent and team dynamics dictate offensive and defensive probability.  Be multidimensional in your thought processes.  Single minded thinking will not allow you to incorporate a flexible response contingency into your game planning.
As a coach you must always remember that you are there for the team.  Too many coaches have this backwards. To expect the best of your team  you must give the best of  yourself. You, the coach, must provide direction, be motivational, be honorable in words and actions, and be willing to take responsibility for your mistakes.  Never blame the team for poor performance.  Always remember, that whatever path the team has followed,  whether to victory or defeat,   you are the one who led them there.
I offer you little in the designing of your game plan, Since it is impossible to design a basic game plan for all teams.  There are too many variables that have to be taken into account, before a game plan can be devised.
My intent with this guide is to provide direction toward the shaping of the coach rather than the team.  There is no sure formula for success, but you, the coach, must remember-- What you do not know, fail to see, or refuse to believe, can destroy  you. Do not lead your team down the path of destruction.  Put yourself on the winning path, by understanding the goals, responsibilities, and requirements of coaching a football team.
In the following pages I will outline what coaching  goals are, and why you must understand them. I will also explain your responsibilities as a coach, and the requirements of  good coaching. These are the minimums that you will have to meet in order to be effective.  Never forget that there is always room for improvement.   You should continue to develop your methods and techniques as long as you are a coach.

For a coach, it is important that you understand coaching
