goals,  do not mean goals as in, "I hope to win five games." What I am talking about is actual coaching goals. There are three of them.

THE BASIC GOAL.  The basic goal in coaching is to train individual players in the fundamentals of the game, such as blocking and tackle.
The most important thing your players have to understand is that inadequacy on the part of one player can severely damage the execution of any play.

THE PRIMARY GOAL.  The Primary goal is more complex. In this, you must guide your team's development toward becoming  a cohesive, but flexible unit.  Make sure your players understand the concept of your game plan, how It works, why it works, and their responsibility in making it work..  Work on play execution and develop timing. Instill enough flexibility in your players that they can solve problems, and adapt their plays to unusual or unexpected situations.
Ask for player input, and be responsive to their comments. By listening to your players you will show that you believe in them, and trust their intelligence.
Critique your players and their performance, stressing the good points  along with the bad.  You must remember, if you point out only the bad points, your players will lose their perspective.
Don't create false expectations by glossing over any shortcomings and never lie to the team. Be honest in all your evaluations of them.  Make sure the team understands that it is hard work in practice that wins games, not high hopes.

COMMITMENT GOAL  The commitment goal is a personal commitment to the football team that you will give your players the best  football program possible.
Your commitment requires you to use  whatever recourses you have been provided, and do your best for the team. If you do your best for the team, they will do their best for you.
As a coach you have many responsibilities you must take seriously. When you take on these responsibilities, do so with the understanding that it is not only the job you are
