CONCLUSION
Any person who holds a coaching position for a high school sport must realize that they are not simply doing a job. As a coach you are a caretaker of young dreams. The measure of what you have done and will do will not be counted only in games won or lost, every student who you will ever have coached will remember you for what you were to them personally. Make playing football an experience that every player you coach can remember without bad feelings or regret. When you take on the responsibility of coaching, you will be putting yourself in the thankless position of never being able to please everyone. You will be criticized, every decision will be analyzed , and when things go wrong you will be blamed. You will find that most parents will expect you to see their children the same way that they do, as the greatest player on the team. Just remember, you have to be practical, doing what is best for all the players on the team. You will make mistakes, and even when you do everything perfectly people will second guess your decisions. Remember to always admit your mistakes when your wrong, and when people speak badly of you, you should never care as long as you are doing what is best for the team, and its individual players. What you must never do, is stick with methods or systems that do not work, or blame the team for your shortcomings. Your job is to give your team the best possible football program you can. If you do this you will have nothing to be ashamed of.
Never think that this or any other manual you might read can give you all the answers. Reading about coaching will never make you a great coach. You have to make yourself a great coach by endeavor, but you must always remember, if you do this for selfish reasons you will never become a great coach.
